About The HRA
Introduction - Who we are - What we do
 |
Horsell Residents' Association was formed in 1965 as a non-political group open to all
adult residents of Horsell (an area now of some 4,500 households in the combined wards of
Horsell West and Horsell East & Woodham) in the borough of Woking, Surrey.
It represents over 12% of the borough, but exists as "the independent voice of
Horsell" to:
- promote, uphold and protect the interests of residents in all matters
affecting or likely to affect Horsell and its environs.
- bring to the notice of relevant authorities or bodies those matters affecting the
interests of Horsell residents, and accordingly keep its members
informed.
- support and promote social and benevolent activities
for the general benefit of Horsell residents, and fundraise in support of such activities.
The HRA is governed by a constitution and has an elected
Committee of local people (often including retired ex-councillors),
a large membership (currently about 2,000 members in 2003/4) which any
Horsell resident aged 18 or over can join, and it issues a regular free
magazine entitled "Community News" (previously called
"The Resident" newsletter) to every household in Horsell.
Horsell Residents Association also has a useful representative seat on certain other local
Society and Association committees, where it always ensures that the interests of Horsell
residents are not overlooked but taken into careful consideration.

The HRA also has several sub-committees committed to different specific aspects of Horsell
and its environs. Apart from the Editorial Committee and the Footpath Group, it has other
sub-committees that organise local projects such as the
annual Village Show, the Horsell 2000 millenium project and Horsell Care.
The HRA also takes up petitions to local government on
behalf of residents. And it does other long-term work - for example in 1995 an HRA objective to
save Horsell Sports Ground from development succeeded in establishing the Ground's future as a
permanent Trust from 2002 onwards for the benefit of all Horsell residents present and future.
But the work of the HRA is largely undertaken by a small group of dedicated people on a
voluntary basis. If you would also like to help the Horsell community and can spare any time or
resources, then do contact the Association, who will pleased to
hear from you. Your assistance will always be welcome, whether as a potential
Committee Member, or a Road Steward to deliver occasional
newsletters, or a resident with knowledge of for example legal affairs or accounting, or just a
volunteer hand to help the annual Village Show. Why not add to "the voice of Horsell"!
Last but not least, consider the other wider benefits of joining the HRA - new
members are always welcome, and in our rapidly changing modern society every member counts!
